Summit Hotels & Resorts has expanded into a new hospitality format in Sikkim with the opening of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok. The launch marks the group’s formal entry into the retreat hotel segment in the state and signals a shift toward experience-led mountain properties.
Set on a hilltop in Pangthang, the 38-room retreat overlooks the Eastern Himalayas, with direct views of Mount Kanchenjunga. Though well connected by road to Gangtok’s main township, the property has been developed to offer a quieter setting, away from the city’s activity.
A location shaped by forests, altitude, and open skies
The retreat is surrounded by pine plantations and wide mountain landscapes, giving guests a sense of seclusion while remaining within reach of the city. Its elevated position is designed to encourage slower, more immersive stays, appealing to travellers who prefer nature-driven experiences rather than conventional sightseeing.
The setting plays a central role in the property’s identity, with architecture and common spaces oriented to maximise natural light, open views, and a connection to the terrain.

Room categories planned for comfort and longer stays
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang features 38 rooms across a range of formats, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. Each room has a private balcony that looks out over the surrounding mountains.
Some suites are designed with separate living and dining areas, making them suitable for extended stays. In keeping with the region’s climate and sustainability goals, the rooms do not include air conditioning or minibars.
Wellness at the core of the retreat experience
The retreat integrates wellness into its daily guest offering. Facilities include a dedicated spa providing specialised treatments, along with spaces reserved for yoga and meditation. These areas are positioned to work in harmony with the natural surroundings, encouraging rest and mental well-being through quiet settings and open views.
Dining, social spaces, and event facilities
Guests have access to a multi-cuisine restaurant that serves regional Sikkimese dishes alongside Indian and international menus. A sun deck overlooking Mount Kanchenjunga offers an outdoor space for relaxation and informal gatherings.
For events and group activities, the property includes a banquet hall measuring approximately 5,000 square feet. The venue can host more than 500 guests and is suitable for destination celebrations, retreats, and small social functions.
