Tamara Leisure Experiences has launched Rae by Tamara, a new hospitality brand focused on the needs of faith travellers, with its first hotel opening in Guruvayoor, Kerala, on 20 August 2026. The launch marks the company’s entry into a segment centred on pilgrimage and religious travel.
The Guruvayoor property, formerly part of the Lilac Hotels portfolio, has been repositioned under the Rae by Tamara brand. The concept is built around the practical and cultural requirements of pilgrims, with services intended to accommodate religious routines, local traditions and different types of travellers.
This development adds to the ongoing expansion of Tamara, reflecting broader patterns observed in hospitality developments across India.Guruvayoor Property Launches New Brand
The hotel was inaugurated by A.V. Gopinath, Chairman, Guruvayur Devaswom Board, in the presence of Samir MC, CEO, Tamara Leisure Experiences; Manoj Mathew, Senior Vice President – Operations, Tamara Leisure Experiences; and Renjith R, General Manager, Rae by Tamara, Guruvayoor.
The launch comes in a destination where pilgrimage is a major component of tourism. Guruvayoor is home to the Sree Krishna Temple and attracts devotees as well as families, NRIs and international visitors. The destination also sees demand linked to religious ceremonies and temple weddings.
Hospitality Designed Around Faith Travel
Rae by Tamara is intended to serve a broad range of faith travellers, including families, elderly pilgrims, solo travellers and groups, as well as guests visiting Guruvayoor for temple weddings and other religious occasions.
The hotel’s offering includes faith-conscious dining, pre-arrival guidance, locally rooted ‘Mitra’ companions and cultural experiences. These services are designed to support guests beyond their accommodation requirements and connect the hotel experience with the traditions and routines associated with the destination.
From Lilac Hotels Portfolio to Rae by Tamara
The Guruvayoor property has been repositioned from its earlier identity within the Lilac Hotels portfolio to serve as the first hotel under Tamara Leisure Experiences’ new faith-focused brand.
The brand’s approach centres on adapting hospitality to the cultural context of individual pilgrimage destinations rather than applying a uniform offering across markets.
Brand Targets 25 Properties by 2030
Tamara Leisure Experiences is exploring opportunities for additional Rae by Tamara properties in pilgrimage destinations including Kumbakonam, Velankanni, Tirupati, Palani and Tiruvannamalai.
Samir MC said the company aims to develop a network of more than 25 Rae properties by 2030, with each hotel reflecting the cultural identity and requirements of its respective destination.
The Guruvayoor opening therefore serves as the starting point for a planned network of faith-focused hotels, with the company seeking to build its presence in established pilgrimage markets across South India.
Focus on the Pilgrimage Hospitality Segment
The launch of Rae by Tamara reflects the growing relevance of specialised hospitality formats around pilgrimage travel. By combining accommodation with destination-specific guidance, dining and cultural experiences, the brand is positioning itself around the broader requirements of faith travellers.
For Tamara Leisure Experiences, the expansion plan provides an opportunity to build a distinct hospitality portfolio in pilgrimage destinations while maintaining a focus on local culture and community connections.
