Sydney Airport and Plaza Premium Group (PPG) will open a new 113-seat Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal 2 Domestic in early December 2026, introducing the airport’s first independent, non-airline-operated lounge within its domestic precinct.
The facility will offer pay-per-use access to departing passengers regardless of airline, travel class or frequent flyer membership. Travellers will be able to book lounge access in advance or enter on a walk-in basis, providing an additional airport hospitality option ahead of the year-end holiday travel period.
Plaza Premium Group Expands Australian Operations with AUD 20 Million Investment
The Sydney lounge forms part of Plaza Premium Group’s AUD 20 million investment programme in Australia over the next 24 months, coinciding with its 10th anniversary of operations in the country.
The investment includes a complete redevelopment of the company’s Brisbane International lounge and plans to introduce a new domestic lounge at Cairns Airport in early 2027.
Following the opening at Terminal 2, Plaza Premium Group will operate six airport hospitality products at Sydney Airport, establishing the location as its largest airport presence in Australia.
The expansion reflects the company’s focus on independent airport hospitality facilities that serve passengers outside traditional airline lounge membership programmes.
New Domestic Lounge to Offer Workspaces and Dining Facilities
Located beyond security at Terminal 2 Domestic, the 113-seat facility will provide dedicated workspaces, high-speed internet connectivity and areas for passengers to relax before departure.
Food and beverage services will include locally inspired dining options, barista-prepared coffee and a full-service bar.
The lounge is designed to accommodate business and leisure travellers seeking a quieter environment, dining facilities or workspace before domestic flights.
Access will be available through advance reservations and walk-in purchases, without restrictions based on airline loyalty status or ticket category.
Sydney Airport Highlights Greater Passenger Choice
Mark Zaouk, Group Executive Commercial at Sydney Airport, welcomed the expansion of the airport’s longstanding partnership with Plaza Premium Group.
“We’re delighted to expand our partnership with Plaza Premium Group and welcome this new domestic lounge to T2.”
“Plaza Premium Group has been a valued partner at Sydney Airport for a decade, consistently investing in high-quality hospitality experiences that enhance the customer journey.”
“This new pay-per-use lounge gives travellers greater flexibility and convenience, whether they’re travelling for business or leisure, while reinforcing our commitment to offering premium experiences across the airport.”
The partnership has developed over the past decade as Sydney Airport continues to broaden its commercial and passenger hospitality offerings.
Plaza Premium Group Reinforces Long-Term Commitment to Australia
Mei Mei Song, Chief Transformation Officer at Plaza Premium Group, identified Australia as an important market within the company’s international operations.
“A decade ago, we introduced our independent lounge concept to Australia with a vision to make premium airport hospitality accessible to all travellers.”
“Australia has become one of our most important growth markets globally, and this $20 million investment reaffirms our long-term commitment to the region.”
“The new Sydney lounge will provide a welcoming space for travellers to work, relax, refresh and recharge, making a premium airport experience an easy part of domestic travel.”
Opening Aligns with Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2 Redevelopment
The lounge is scheduled to open alongside the completion of Sydney Airport’s AUD 200 million Terminal 2 redevelopment programme.
Its introduction will expand access to airport lounge facilities for domestic passengers who do not hold premium airline tickets or frequent flyer privileges.
For Plaza Premium Group, the opening represents another stage in its Australian expansion, alongside planned investments in Brisbane and Cairns.
The development also reflects the growing role of independent lounge operators in providing hospitality services across domestic airport terminals.
