Beyond Green, part of Preferred Travel Group, has added El Silencio Lodge & Spa in Costa Rica and Hotel Món Sant Benet in Spain to its international portfolio of sustainability-focused hospitality properties. The additions expand the group’s presence to 22 countries, including five member hotels in Spain and three in Costa Rica.
Established in 2021, Beyond Green brings together hotels, resorts and lodges that meet membership criteria aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and other international sustainability standards. The latest additions reflect the group’s focus on environmental conservation, cultural preservation and community engagement.
Beyond Green Strengthens Its International Sustainable Hospitality Network
The two properties introduce different approaches to sustainable tourism, combining environmental initiatives with locally rooted hospitality experiences.
El Silencio Lodge & Spa focuses on forest conservation, renewable energy and community partnerships in Costa Rica’s central highlands. Hotel Món Sant Benet integrates heritage preservation, renewable energy, river restoration and social programmes in Catalonia.
Philipp Weghmann, President of Beyond Green, said:
“El Silencio Lodge & Spa and Hotel Món Sant Benet each reflect a deep connection to place, expressed through the landscapes they protect, the heritage they preserve and the communities they support.”
He added:
“We are pleased to welcome them to our global community and to create new opportunities for our members to learn from one another and strengthen their collective impact.”
El Silencio Lodge & Spa Advances Conservation in Costa Rica
Located in Sarchí, Costa Rica, El Silencio Lodge & Spa is surrounded by protected wildlife areas and cloud forests.
The lodge operates on renewable hydroelectric energy, converts used cooking oil into biodiesel and uses biodegradable alternatives to reduce single-use materials.
Its sustainability programmes also include waste management, farm-to-table dining, native stingless bee conservation and support for the American Cinchona Plantation treefrog.
The property works with communities in Bajos del Toro on school infrastructure, student transportation, local procurement and rural development initiatives.
Guest experiences include wellness treatments, guided hikes, tree planting, traditional oxcart painting and local cooking activities.
Hotel Món Sant Benet Combines Heritage Preservation with Renewable Energy
Located outside Barcelona, Hotel Món Sant Benet is situated around the historic Monastery of Sant Benet de Bages.
Owned and operated by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, the property directs profits towards social and environmental programmes, including education, elderly support and inclusive employment.
Solar panels and a private hydroelectric turbine supply more than 70% of its annual energy requirements, avoiding over 360 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The hotel also supports restoration projects along the Llobregat River and conservation of surrounding riverside forests.
Its dining portfolio includes three restaurants, among them the Michelin-starred L’Ó. The restaurants emphasise locally sourced ingredients through organic gardens and regional producers.
Sustainability Initiatives Extend Beyond Hotel Operations
Both properties demonstrate how hospitality businesses can incorporate environmental and social programmes into their operating models.
At El Silencio Lodge & Spa, initiatives include local employment, financial education for staff, conservation activities and partnerships with neighbouring communities.
Hotel Món Sant Benet combines renewable energy generation with cultural heritage preservation, ecological restoration and programmes supporting vulnerable community groups.
These initiatives align with Beyond Green’s membership framework, which evaluates participating properties against sustainability and responsible tourism criteria.
New Members Join Preferred Travel Group’s Loyalty Network
As Beyond Green member properties, both hotels participate in I Prefer Hotel Rewards, the loyalty programme associated with Preferred Hotels & Resorts.
The programme has approximately six million enrolled travellers and includes more than 700 participating hotels and resorts worldwide.
The addition of the two properties extends Beyond Green’s sustainable hospitality network while providing travellers with more accommodation options linked to conservation, cultural heritage and community development.
