Sunday PropTech Limited, a PRISM-backed hospitality ownership company, has acquired an 89-room hotel in Rajarhat, Kolkata, marking its entry into Eastern India’s hospitality market. The company plans to reposition and rebrand the property under Clubhouse, its mid-premium hotel brand within the Sunday Collection portfolio.
The acquisition forms part of Sunday PropTech’s strategy to expand its portfolio of premium and mid-premium hospitality assets across India. The company intends to improve the property’s operational performance through PRISM’s technology, distribution and revenue management capabilities.
Sunday PropTech Acquires Six-Storey Hotel in Rajarhat
The acquired property is a six-storey hotel constructed in 2017, located in Rajarhat, one of Kolkata’s developing commercial districts.
The 89-room hotel includes food and beverage facilities and meeting spaces, positioning it to serve corporate travellers, business visitors and guests travelling to Kolkata.
Its location provides access to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and major commercial destinations, including Ecospace Business Park, Bengal Silicon Valley and Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
The acquisition gives Sunday PropTech a hospitality asset in an established business location with access to corporate demand generators.
Hotel to Be Repositioned Under Clubhouse Brand
Sunday PropTech plans to reposition and rebrand the property under Clubhouse, part of its Sunday Collection hospitality portfolio.
The transition is expected to take place over the coming months, although the company has not disclosed a specific completion date.
The repositioning strategy will draw on PRISM’s hospitality brand ecosystem, technology platform, distribution network and centralised revenue management capabilities.
These resources are intended to support improvements in the hotel’s market positioning, operational efficiency and guest experience.
The company has not disclosed the acquisition value or the investment planned for the property’s repositioning.
Kolkata Identified as a Strategic Expansion Market
Kolkata represents an important market in Sunday PropTech’s expansion plans, supported by commercial development, IT infrastructure and corporate travel demand.
Rajarhat’s proximity to business parks, convention facilities and the international airport provides access to multiple business travel segments.
Sunday PropTech is also evaluating additional hotel investment opportunities across West Bengal as it seeks to expand its presence in the region.
The Kolkata acquisition establishes an initial operating presence from which the company can assess further hospitality investments in Eastern India.
Saurav Agarwal Highlights West Bengal’s Hospitality Potential
Commenting on the acquisition, Saurav Agarwal, Board Member, Sunday PropTech, said:
“We thank the Government of West Bengal for their support and facilitation. This acquisition reflects our confidence in the state’s hospitality and tourism potential and our commitment to contributing to its growing hospitality ecosystem. We look forward to building on this milestone as we continue to expand our hotel portfolio across West Bengal”.
The statement reflects the company’s interest in developing a broader hospitality portfolio in West Bengal, beyond its initial Kolkata acquisition.
Acquisition Follows ₹800 Crore Serviced-Apartment Portfolio Deal
Sunday PropTech has been expanding its hospitality ownership portfolio through acquisitions in India and international markets.
The company recently acquired eight premium serviced-apartment hotels with a combined value of approximately ₹800 crore.
These properties are expected to operate under brands within PRISM’s hospitality ecosystem, including Sunday Hotels, Belvilla and other suitable brands.
The acquired assets will be supported by PRISM’s technology infrastructure, distribution capabilities and centralised revenue management systems.
Eastern India Entry Supports Wider Hospitality Investment Strategy
The Kolkata acquisition extends Sunday PropTech’s geographic presence while adding an 89-room property to its hospitality portfolio.
Its planned conversion to Clubhouse reflects the company’s approach of acquiring existing hotel assets and repositioning them through established hospitality brands and operating platforms.
With further opportunities under evaluation in West Bengal, Sunday PropTech is seeking to develop its presence in Eastern India’s corporate and mid-premium hospitality markets.
