Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has elevated Shyama Maity to Director of Rooms. Maity joined the property in 2024 as Rooms Division Manager and has progressed into the expanded leadership role, taking responsibility for the complete Rooms Division function.
With close to 20 years of hospitality experience, Maity has worked across Rooms Division operations, Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Relations, Concierge and Reservations. Her career spans India and New Zealand, with experience across both operational and Rooms leadership positions.
This appointment supports Accor’s expansion, contributing to executive movements in hotels.
Leading the Rooms Division at Novotel Hyderabad
As Director of Rooms, Maity will oversee the Rooms Division across Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre’s 287-room inventory. Her remit covers Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Relations, Concierge and Reservations, bringing multiple guest-facing functions under her leadership.
Her responsibilities will include overseeing guest services and Rooms performance while maintaining operational standards across the property. She will also monitor key commercial indicators including occupancy, Average Daily Rate (ADR), revenue and RevPAR, alongside quality, brand and sustainability standards.
Managing a Diverse Guest and Business Mix
The property serves a combination of MICE, corporate, wedding, social and leisure segments, creating a varied operating environment for the Rooms Division. Maity will oversee room operations supporting these segments, including group arrivals and stays associated with large-scale conventions and events at HICC.
This requires coordination across the Rooms functions to maintain service consistency during different types of events and guest stays. Her role will therefore combine day-to-day operational oversight with planning around the property’s diverse business mix.
Experience Across Rooms Operations in India and New Zealand
Before returning to India, Maity served as Rooms Division Manager at Rydges Latimer Christchurch in New Zealand. She also held Front Office leadership positions at The George Christchurch, building experience across Rooms operations and guest-facing functions in the New Zealand hospitality market.
Her international experience adds to a career that has covered several core areas of hotel Rooms operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Relations, Concierge and Reservations.
Early Career with Hyatt Hotels
Earlier in her career, Maity worked with Hyatt Ahmedabad, Grand Hyatt Goa and Hyatt Regency Kolkata. At Grand Hyatt Goa, she was part of the hotel’s pre-opening team, gaining experience in preparations associated with launching a property and establishing operational processes.
Her experience across these Hyatt properties contributed to her operational background before she moved into Rooms leadership roles in New Zealand and subsequently returned to India.
Focus on Service Delivery and People Development
In her new position, Maity will work with the hotel team across operational planning, service delivery and people development. The role places responsibility on maintaining the day-to-day effectiveness of the Rooms Division while developing teams across its different functions.
Guest experience will remain an important component of the position, particularly given the property’s mix of conventions, corporate events, weddings, social celebrations and leisure stays.
Rubin Cherian on the Elevation
Rubin Cherian, General Manager, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC, said Maity’s elevation reflects her contribution to the property since joining in 2024.
“Shyama’s elevation is a reflection of the leadership, commitment and operational depth she has demonstrated during her time with us. Since joining Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC, she has made a meaningful impact across the Rooms Division, with a clear focus on guest experience, people development and business performance.
Our property operates across a unique mix of MICE, corporate, weddings and leisure, and the Rooms Division sits at the centre of each of these experiences. Shyama understands this complexity exceptionally well, and I am confident that in her new role she will continue to strengthen our Rooms operations while creating memorable experiences for every guest who walks through our doors.”
Shyama Maity on Her New Role
Reflecting on her promotion, Maity highlighted the range of guest experiences managed by the property and her focus on strengthening the Rooms Division.
“I am honoured to take on the role of Director of Rooms at Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC. Having been part of this property since 2024, this elevation is especially meaningful to me. What makes this hotel unique is the diversity of experiences we deliver; from large-scale conventions and corporate events at HICC to weddings, social celebrations and leisure stays.
Every guest has a different reason for being here, but the expectation for warm, seamless and consistent hospitality remains the same. I look forward to working closely with our teams to further strengthen our Rooms Division, develop our people and ensure that every stay reflects the service excellence that Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC stands for.”
Strengthening Rooms Operations at Novotel Hyderabad
Maity’s elevation expands her responsibility from leading the Rooms Division to overseeing its wider operational performance across the 287-room property. Her experience across India and New Zealand, combined with exposure to multiple Rooms functions, positions her to manage the operational requirements of a hotel serving both large-scale events and individual leisure and business travellers.
Her focus will centre on service delivery, Rooms performance, people development and maintaining quality, brand and sustainability standards across the division.
