Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has added nine domestic destinations to its network as cumulative passenger traffic approaches 36 lakh within its first 10 months of operations. The expansion strengthens connectivity between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and regional centres across India, supporting access to tourism and business markets.
The newly added destinations are Agatti, via Goa-Mopa, Darbhanga, Guwahati, Jalgaon, Jodhpur, Ranchi, Bagdogra, Sindhudurg and Udaipur. According to the airport’s official statement, NMIA has recorded 35,88,675 passenger movements since commencing operations.
Passenger Traffic and Aircraft Movements at NMIA
Domestic travel accounts for the majority of passenger traffic at Navi Mumbai International Airport. Of the total passenger movements recorded, 35,80,233 were on domestic routes, while 8,442 were international passengers.
Departures totalled 18,01,377, marginally exceeding the 17,87,298 arrivals recorded during the period. The airport also handled 27,185 scheduled aircraft movements, comprising 27,111 domestic and 74 international movements.
The addition of nine destinations is expected to expand travel options for passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while improving access to regional markets.
New Routes Strengthen Regional Tourism Connectivity
The expanded network connects passengers with destinations across several parts of India. Agatti, served via Goa-Mopa, provides access to Lakshadweep, while Guwahati strengthens connectivity to the Northeast. Jodhpur and Udaipur offer access to Rajasthan’s heritage and tourism destinations, while Sindhudurg improves connectivity to the Konkan coast.
The addition of Darbhanga, Jalgaon, Ranchi and Bagdogra further broadens NMIA’s domestic network, providing additional options for passengers travelling for business, leisure and personal visits.
NMIA Expands International Cargo Connectivity
Alongside passenger growth, Navi Mumbai International Airport is developing its cargo operations. Less than three months after launching international cargo services, its international freighter network connects 45 destinations, served by 18 airlines.
The network includes passenger carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and Turkish Airlines, alongside dedicated cargo operators including AeroLogic, Atlas Air and DHL.
The expanding cargo network is expected to strengthen the airport’s role in supporting trade and logistics, offering additional connectivity for businesses moving goods through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Public-Private Partnership Drives Airport Development
Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd, a public-private partnership between Adani Airport Holdings and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), develops and operates the airport.
The growth of its passenger and cargo networks marks a further step in expanding aviation infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With additional domestic destinations and an expanding international cargo network, NMIA is positioned to support regional connectivity, tourism and trade as its operations develop.
