Minimalist Hotels Enters Udaipur with Heritage Hospitality Offering
Minimalist Hotels is set to make its Udaipur debut with the launch of a boutique heritage hospitality property overlooking Lake Pichola, marking the brand’s entry into one of India’s most distinctive leisure and heritage hospitality markets.
Scheduled to open by the end of May 2026, the upcoming property reflects the company’s continued expansion across India’s evolving boutique hospitality landscape, targeting travellers seeking design-led and culturally immersive stay experiences.
The new property, Minimalist – Lake Pichola Edit, will be located on Bhimparmeshwar Marg in Udaipur and will be housed within the historic Bawlas ki Haveli, a heritage structure dating back to 1820. The opening marks a strategic milestone for the brand as it expands into a city long associated with heritage tourism, luxury hospitality, and destination-led travel experiences.
This opening contributes to the growing portfolio of Minimalist, while also reflecting the pace of hospitality developments across the country.A Heritage Property Rooted in Udaipur’s Royal Legacy
Minimalist Hotels’ upcoming Udaipur property will operate from Bawlas ki Haveli, a historic heritage building with deep connections to the city’s princely past.
Dating back to 1820, the haveli was originally gifted to a Rajput noble associated with the royal court of Mewar in Udaipur. Historically, the property served as a venue for hosting distinguished guests during the princely era, reflecting the social and architectural traditions of the time.
The section that now houses the hotel was historically known as the Mardana Haveli, a designated space used for hosting male guests during a period when the purdah system shaped architectural planning and social customs.
While the property has now been adapted for modern hospitality use, several elements of its original architectural identity remain preserved.
Traditional design features including terracotta walls, intricate jharokhas, and heritage-inspired detailing continue to define the structure’s visual identity, offering guests a stay experience closely tied to old Udaipur’s architectural heritage.
Contemporary Hospitality Within a Historic Structure
The heritage property has been reimagined through Minimalist Hotels’ contemporary design philosophy, which focuses on understated interiors, thoughtful design, and experience-led hospitality.
Rather than altering the original essence of the building, the restoration has sought to preserve the character of the haveli while integrating modern hospitality expectations around comfort, functionality, and design.
This approach reflects a growing hospitality trend where heritage structures are repositioned as boutique hospitality assets while retaining cultural authenticity.
Adaptive reuse of heritage properties continues to remain an increasingly relevant hospitality model, particularly in destinations where experiential travel and cultural immersion drive guest decision-making.
18-Key Boutique Hospitality Format
Minimalist – Lake Pichola Edit has been designed as an intimate boutique hospitality offering.
The property will feature 18 rooms across curated accommodation categories including:
- Maharaja Suite
- Maharani Suite
- Superior Twin Rooms
- Superior King Rooms
Each room has been designed to balance comfort, simplicity, and visual aesthetics while preserving the architectural character of the original haveli structure.
Boutique hospitality formats increasingly continue to attract travellers looking for more personalised and destination-specific experiences rather than standardised large-format hotel stays.
Cabami to Anchor the Dining Experience
The property will also introduce Cabami, a rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking Lake Pichola and Udaipur’s city skyline.
Positioned as an elevated dining venue, the restaurant is expected to serve both resident guests and destination diners seeking panoramic views alongside curated food and beverage experiences.
Rooftop hospitality venues continue to remain commercially attractive in leisure destinations where scenic positioning adds experiential value.
Cabami is expected to complement the property’s boutique positioning by extending the overall guest experience beyond accommodation.
Leadership Commentary
Commenting on the launch, Gautam Munjal, Founder of Minimalist Hotels, said:
“Udaipur has always been a city that leaves a lasting impression with its beauty, culture, and timeless charm. With this property, we wanted to create more than just a stay, we wanted to build an experience that feels deeply connected to the soul of the city while reflecting the simplicity and thoughtful design philosophy of Minimalist Hotels. Every element of the space has been curated with intention, and we’re excited to finally bring our brand to Udaipur.”
Strategic Expansion into Boutique Leisure Hospitality
The launch represents a significant milestone for Minimalist Hotels as it expands its footprint in India’s boutique hospitality segment.
Udaipur remains one of India’s most established leisure hospitality markets, driven by heritage tourism, destination weddings, premium leisure travel, and international visitor demand.
For emerging boutique hospitality brands, entering culturally significant destinations such as Udaipur offers an opportunity to align brand identity with experiential travel demand.
The property’s positioning around heritage, design, and immersive hospitality reflects wider traveller preferences toward meaningful and destination-led stays.
Outlook
With the launch of Minimalist – Lake Pichola Edit, Minimalist Hotels enters the Udaipur hospitality market with a heritage-led boutique property that combines historical architecture with contemporary hospitality design.
The opening marks the brand’s continued expansion into India’s growing experiential hospitality segment.
