Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty has appointed Sumesh Mohan as Human Resources Manager, adding 17 years of hospitality experience across hotel operations, human resources, talent development and pre-opening assignments to its people function.
Mohan began his hospitality career as a Pastry Chef before transitioning into Human Resources in 2015. His subsequent career has included HR roles across Marriott, Hyatt and other hospitality organisations, with experience spanning recruitment, team building, HR processes, administration, compliance and operational readiness.
The move supports Hyatt’s leadership development, contributing to executive movements in hotels.
From Culinary Operations to Human Resources
Mohan started his hospitality career in 2009 as a Pastry Chef. His early operational experience provided an understanding of hotel departments and day-to-day hospitality operations before he moved into Human Resources in 2015 as a Human Resources Executive.
The transition gave him an opportunity to combine his operational understanding with a growing focus on people management, recruitment and employee development.
Since moving into HR, Mohan has built experience across hotel properties in India and the Maldives, progressing through increasingly senior responsibilities in human resources.
Experience Across Marriott and Hyatt Properties
Mohan has held HR positions across several hospitality properties, including The Westin Hyderabad, Sheraton Bangalore at Brigade Gateway, Courtyard by Marriott Kochi Airport, Velaa Private Island and Kochi Marriott Hotel.
His career also includes Four Points by Sheraton Kochi Infopark, Hyatt Place Rameshwaram, Hyatt Regency Thrissur, Courtyard by Marriott Hebbal and Sterling Holidays Resorts.
Working across these properties has provided exposure to different hotel operating environments and people management requirements. His responsibilities have covered recruitment, employee processes, talent development and HR administration.
Leadership at Courtyard by Marriott Hebbal
At Courtyard by Marriott Hebbal, Bengaluru, Mohan led HR operations before being promoted to Assistant Director of Human Resources.
His role involved overseeing people-related functions and supporting the hotel’s HR requirements. The experience added a broader leadership dimension to his career, with responsibility for managing HR operations within a hotel environment.
His progression also reflects his movement from operational hospitality into specialised HR leadership.
Experience in Pre-Opening Operations
Mohan has been involved in several pre-opening assignments during his career. These projects provided experience in recruitment, team building, HR processes and operational readiness.
Pre-opening HR responsibilities require coordination around staffing, recruitment and team formation before a property begins operations. His exposure to these assignments has therefore added experience in establishing people processes alongside hotel operational preparations.
Academic Background and Professional Recognition
Mohan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from Christ University, Bengaluru, and an MBA in Hotel Management & Human Resources from Mumbai University.
His academic background combines hotel operations with human resources management, complementing his career progression from culinary operations into HR leadership.
He has also received professional recognition, including the Best Human Resources Manager Award for Human Resources Leadership in Talent Acquisition in 2018. He was also recognised with a Serve 360 Award for CSR initiatives under Marriott International in South Asia.
HR Responsibilities at Grand Hyatt Kochi
At Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty, Mohan will oversee HR operations covering recruitment, talent development, administration, compliance and people management.
His remit will involve supporting the hotel’s staffing and employee processes while working with teams across the property. Talent development and people management will form part of the wider HR function under his responsibility.
Supporting People and Operational Readiness
Mohan’s combination of hotel operations experience and HR leadership provides exposure to both employee and operational requirements. His early experience as a Pastry Chef gives him direct understanding of hotel operations, while his subsequent HR career has focused on people-related functions.
At Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty, this experience will support recruitment, employee development, compliance and HR administration as part of the property’s people management activities.
Building on a Diverse Hospitality Career
Mohan’s 17-year hospitality career has taken him from culinary operations into human resources, with roles across Marriott, Hyatt and other hospitality organisations.
His experience in pre-openings, recruitment, team building and HR operations will form part of his responsibilities at Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty. The appointment adds further HR leadership experience to the property’s people function as it continues to focus on talent development and employee management.
