DGCA Investigates False Hijack Alert on Air India Flight
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating a false hijack alert involving an Air India Boeing 787-9 operating a Frankfurt-Delhi flight that was diverted to Jaipur on October 14.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said the government would wait for the final investigation report before deciding whether changes to aviation security procedures were necessary. He stressed that authorities must establish exactly what happened before considering any revisions to existing rules.
Aircraft Diverted to Jaipur for Security Checks
The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur International Airport, where security agencies carried out checks on the aircraft, passengers and baggage. Following the completion of the necessary checks, the flight was cleared to resume its journey to Delhi.
Reports indicated that the incident triggered a security response after a hijack alert was raised. However, the precise cause of the false alert has not yet been officially established.
Investigation to Examine Origin of Alert
The investigation is expected to examine how the alert originated and whether it involved the aircraft’s transponder, air traffic control systems or related procedures.
The internationally recognised hijack code 7500 has featured in reports about the incident, raising questions about how the alert was generated and displayed. The findings are expected to help authorities determine the circumstances surrounding the alert and whether existing aviation security procedures require any changes.
Government Awaits Final Investigation Report
The government has indicated that any decision on revising aviation security rules will depend on the findings of the investigation. The DGCA’s inquiry will be important in establishing the sequence of events and identifying any procedural or technical issues that may have contributed to the incident.
