In an industry where mentorship and real-world experience play a defining role, Manas Madaan has emerged as a voice guiding the next generation of hospitality professionals. Having worked with renowned hospitality brands including The Oberoi Group, JW Marriott, Hyatt, Roseate Hotels & Resorts, and Sarovar Hotels, Manas brings deep industry insight shaped by years of operational and leadership experience.
In this exclusive conversation with Hotelier Buzz, he talks about the inspiration behind launching YourHotelierCoach, the challenges faced by young hoteliers, the importance of mentorship, and why hospitality continues to remain one of the most rewarding career choices for the younger generation.
Q1. What inspired you to start “YourHotelierCoach”? Was there a particular moment or experience that triggered the idea?
Manas Madaan: The inspiration behind *YourHotelierCoach* was deeply personal. Having spent over a decade working my way through some of the most iconic hotel brands in the world — The Oberoi, JW Marriott, Hyatt, The Soaltee, Roseate Hotels, and now Sarovar Hotels — I realized that while the industry offered extraordinary opportunities, most young professionals were navigating their careers entirely in the dark. There was no single voice, no trusted guide they could turn to for honest, experience-driven advice. I remember being a young hotelier myself, full of passion but short on direction.
I wanted to be the mentor I never had ,someone who speaks with clarity, from real experience, without filters.
Q2. What gap did you notice in the industry or among young professionals that made you feel such a platform was needed?
Manas Madaan: One major gap I noticed was the lack of practical career guidance for hospitality students and young hoteliers. Colleges teach theory and operations, but many students are not fully prepared for the realities of the industry — the work culture, growth path, leadership expectations, guest handling, and personal development required to succeed.
I also noticed that many talented professionals leave the industry early because they feel undervalued, confused about career progression, or disconnected from long-term opportunities. There was limited mentorship available on digital platforms specifically focused on hospitality careers. “YourHotelierCoach” was created to provide honest conversations, industry awareness, and actionable advice that can help young professionals build confidence and clarity in their careers.
Q3: Hospitality is often seen as demanding and challenging. What myths about the industry would you most like to bust?
Manas Madaan: One of the biggest myths is that hospitality only means long working hours with limited personal growth. While the industry is certainly demanding, it is also one of the fastest environments for learning, personality development, leadership exposure, and global career opportunities.
Another misconception is that hospitality jobs are limited to operational roles like front office or food service. In reality, the industry offers diverse career paths in sales, revenue management, marketing, human resources, events, luxury services, training, entrepreneurship, and hotel leadership.
Q4: What, according to you, makes hospitality one of the most rewarding career choices for the younger generation today?
Manas Madaan: Hospitality is one of the few industries where growth depends more on attitude, consistency, and people skills than just academic qualifications. It gives young professionals an opportunity to interact with people from different cultures, build confidence, and develop leadership at an early stage.
A person can start as a trainee and eventually become a department head or General Manager through dedication and continuous learning. Hospitality teaches resilience, discipline, and service excellence, qualities that shape both professional success and personal character.
Q5: Through “YourHotelierCoach,” what kind of impact are you hoping to create in the long run?
Manas Madaan: My long-term vision is to build a trusted mentorship-driven hospitality community where young professionals feel guided, motivated, and empowered. I want “YourHotelierCoach” to become a platform that not only educates but also inspires individuals to stay committed to the industry and believe in their potential.
I hope to contribute toward creating more confident future leaders in hospitality by sharing practical knowledge, real-life experiences, and honest career conversations. If even a small percentage of young hoteliers are able to make better career decisions, stay motivated during difficult phases, or achieve leadership positions because of the platform, I would consider that a meaningful success.
Q6: What are some key qualities or skills young people should develop if they wish to build a successful career in hospitality?
Manas Madaan: The first and most important quality is attitude. Skills can be taught, but a positive mindset, willingness to learn, and humility are what truly help professionals grow in hospitality.
Communication skills are equally critical because hospitality is a people-centric industry. Young professionals should also focus on emotional intelligence, adaptability, grooming, problem-solving, and teamwork.
In today’s landscape, digital literacy — understanding hotel technology, revenue management systems, and social media — is no longer optional. But none of these will matter without one foundational quality: humility. The ability to stay calm under pressure and consistently deliver service excellence is what differentiates successful hoteliers.
Q7: Have you personally mentored or inspired any young professionals through the page? Any memorable interactions you would like to share?
Manas Madaan: Yes, one of the most fulfilling aspects of running the page has been receiving messages from students and young professionals who found clarity or motivation through the content. I have interacted with individuals who were uncertain about continuing in hospitality, but after conversations and guidance, they regained confidence and decided to pursue their careers with renewed focus.
One memorable interaction was with a hospitality student who shared that my content helped him prepare mentally for industrial training and understand the realities of hotel operations before entering the field. Later, he messaged again after successfully completing his internship and thanked me for helping him stay motivated during challenging situations. Moments like these reinforce the purpose behind “YourHotelierCoach.”
Q8: How important is mentorship in today’s hospitality industry?
Manas Madaan: Mentorship is extremely important, especially in an industry as dynamic and people oriented as hospitality. Young professionals often face challenges related to confidence, career direction, workplace pressure, and professional expectations. A good mentor provides not only guidance but also perspective and encouragement.
Hospitality is an industry where practical learning and real-life experiences matter greatly. Mentors help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry realities. They can accelerate learning, reduce avoidable mistakes, and help individuals develop both professionally and personally.
Q9: In your opinion, how can hotel leaders and institutions work together to make hospitality more attractive to Gen Z?
Manas Madaan: The younger generation values purpose, growth opportunities, work-life balance, recognition, and meaningful workplace cultures. Hotel leaders and educational institutions need to work together to present a more realistic and inspiring image of hospitality careers.
Institutions should focus more on practical exposure, leadership development, and industry interaction rather than only theoretical learning. Simultaneously, hotel organizations should invest in mentorship programs, employee well-being, transparent career growth paths, and modern workplace cultures that encourage innovation and inclusivity.
Gen Z seeks learning, flexibility, and recognition. If the industry can align itself with these expectations while maintaining operational excellence, hospitality will continue to attract talented young professionals.
Q10: What advice would you give to someone who is considering entering the hospitality industry but feels uncertain about it?
Manas Madaan: Hospitality is not an easy industry, but it is certainly a rewarding one for those who genuinely enjoy interacting with people and creating experiences. My advice would be to enter the industry with realistic expectations, patience, and a learning mindset.
Every successful hotelier has started from basic operational roles and grown through consistency and perseverance. The early years may be demanding, but they build the foundation for leadership and long-term growth.
Instead of focusing only on challenges, focus on the opportunities the industry offers — global exposure, career mobility, personality development, networking, and leadership growth. Hospitality can transform not only your career but also your character.
Q11: Lastly, what message would you like to share with the next generation of hoteliers?
Manas Madaan: To every young hotelier reading this: you are not just choosing a job — you are choosing a life of service, leadership, and constant human connection. This industry will push you, reshape you, and ultimately reveal the very best version of you — if you let it. Do not be in a hurry to skip the journey.
The lobby attendant who becomes a General Manager understands something that cannot be taught from the top: the view from every floor matters. Be proud of where you start. Be strategic about where you are going. And never stop learning — because in hospitality, the moment you stop growing is the moment you stop serving. The world needs hoteliers who lead with heart and think with precision. That next generation — it is you. Own it.
If I can do it ,You all can do much better.
