The Odisha government has approved 55 new hotel and accommodation projects since July 2024, with a cumulative investment of ₹3,211.32 crore, signalling a major push to strengthen the state’s tourism and hospitality ecosystem. The approvals span luxury hotels, eco-resorts, and budget-friendly properties, reflecting a diversified approach to hospitality development across the state.
Bhubaneswar emerges as a key hospitality hub
Bhubaneswar continues to anchor Odisha’s hotel development strategy, attracting significant investments from leading global and Indian hospitality brands. Among the notable projects are a ₹139 crore hotel under the World of Hyatt portfolio and a ₹119.14 crore property by ITC Hotels in the state capital.
These developments are expected to strengthen Bhubaneswar’s position as a destination for business travel, MICE activity, and upscale leisure, supported by the city’s growing infrastructure and institutional presence.
Expanding hospitality into tribal and remote regions
Beyond urban centres, the Odisha government is actively encouraging hotel development in tribal and remote districts such as Koraput, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Ganjam. These projects are largely focused on eco-tourism and scenic destinations, aimed at unlocking the tourism potential of Odisha’s forests, hills, and culturally rich regions.
By promoting hospitality investment in these areas, the state is seeking to balance tourism growth with ecological sensitivity while creating local employment opportunities.

Coastal destinations see luxury resort momentum
Odisha’s coastline is also witnessing renewed interest from luxury resort developers. Destinations such as Puri and Chilika Lake are set to see large-format resort projects catering to premium leisure travellers.
Key approvals include a ₹212.25 crore luxury resort under the Marriott Bonvoy umbrella and a ₹110 crore ITC resort at Somolo Island, highlighting strong confidence in Odisha’s coastal tourism appeal.
Strong participation from global and national brands
The approved projects feature participation from several prominent hospitality groups, including Accor, Radisson Hotels, Marriott Bonvoy, World of Hyatt, and ITC Hotels. The mix of brands reflects interest across luxury, upscale, and midscale segments, catering to diverse traveller profiles.
A significant boost to tourism-led growth
With 55 new projects approved in under a year, Odisha is positioning itself as an emerging hospitality investment destination in eastern India. The ₹3,211 crore pipeline is expected to add significant room inventory over the coming years, support tourism-led economic growth, and enhance the state’s appeal across business, leisure, spiritual, and eco-tourism segments.
The approvals mark a decisive step in Odisha’s long-term strategy to build a robust, regionally balanced hospitality infrastructure aligned with its natural and cultural strengths.
