The airline urges travellers to allow additional time for airport transfers, complete online check-in and monitor flight updates as Malaysia’s Northeast Monsoon continues through March 2027.
SEPANG, 2 November 2026: AirAsia has advised passengers travelling during the year-end peak travel period to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for their journeys, as increased passenger traffic and seasonal weather conditions may affect travel plans.
Malaysia’s Northeast Monsoon is expected to continue from 27 October 2026 until March 2027, bringing periods of continuous heavy rainfall, particularly between November and January. These conditions may cause flooding in affected areas, while thunderstorms and adverse weather could also disrupt flight operations.
The airline has encouraged passengers to stay informed about weather conditions and take necessary precautions before travelling.
AirAsia Issues Airport Arrival and Check-in Advisory
AirAsia recommends that passengers arrive at the airport at least three hours before scheduled international departures and two hours before domestic departures. Travellers, including those travelling under group bookings, are encouraged to complete self check-in through the AirAsia MOVE app or the airline’s website, airasia.com.
Self check-in is available from 14 days up to one hour before the scheduled departure time.
Passengers are also advised to check their flight status regularly through AirAsia’s flight status page, particularly 24 hours before departure and again before leaving for the airport.
For airport transfers, travellers should allow additional time as heavy rainfall, flooding and traffic congestion may affect road conditions and journey times. AirAsia has encouraged passengers travelling to KLIA Terminal 2 to use the Express Rail Link (ERL) for convenient and reliable public transport access.
Airport Kiosks and Baggage Guidelines
Passengers are encouraged to use airport kiosks to print baggage tags and complete self-bag drop. Counter check-in services will be available only for passengers with reduced mobility, those travelling with infants under 24 months, pregnant passengers, senior citizens and young passengers travelling alone.
AirAsia has also reminded passengers to check cabin baggage requirements before departure. Each passenger is permitted one piece of cabin baggage measuring no more than 56 x 36 x 23 cm, along with one laptop bag, handbag or small bag. The combined weight of the two pieces of unchecked baggage must not exceed 7 kg.
Passengers requiring wheelchair assistance can pre-book the service at the time of booking or through the ‘My Bookings’ section of the AirAsia MOVE app. Special Assistance bookings must be made at least four hours before the scheduled departure time.
Travel Documents and Weather Updates
Passengers are advised to ensure that their passports, visas and other required travel documents are valid before departure. Malaysian passport holders travelling internationally are encouraged to download the MyNIISe or MyBorderPass app in advance to facilitate immigration clearance at KLIA Terminal 2. They should follow the instructions provided through the relevant application before travelling.
Travellers flying to or from destinations affected by severe weather should monitor local forecasts and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities. Passengers are also advised to ensure that their email addresses and mobile numbers in their bookings are correct so they can receive important flight notifications and updates.
In the event of flight disruptions, passengers should check their email for updates and available self-service options, where applicable. They can also follow the instructions provided or contact Bo, AirAsia’s chatbot, for further assistance.
Pregnant passengers are required to complete a form at the airport counter before boarding. Those who are more than 27 weeks pregnant must also submit an approved medical certificate from a doctor.
Airline to Monitor Operational Conditions
AirAsia said it will continue monitoring operational conditions and communicate relevant updates to affected passengers through the contact details provided in their bookings.
The airline reiterated that the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew remain its top priority. It has encouraged travellers to plan their journeys in advance, stay informed about weather and flight developments, and allow additional flexibility in their travel arrangements during the monsoon period.
