According to the Chief Minister, the proposal recognises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to Uttar Pradesh’s development. The Cabinet also passed a resolution acknowledging Modi’s 25 years of continuous service as head of government, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001.
Cabinet Approves Proposed Airport Renaming
The Cabinet’s approval covers the proposal to rename Noida International Airport as Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. The formal renaming process, however, remains subject to the applicable central-government procedure.
The announcement follows the development of Jewar airport as a major aviation infrastructure project in Uttar Pradesh. The proposed name change is a separate administrative step from the airport’s development and operational expansion.
Jewar Airport to Strengthen NCR Aviation Capacity
Noida International Airport is being developed to serve as the National Capital Region’s second international airport alongside Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The facility is expected to add passenger-handling capacity and improve air connectivity for Noida, Greater Noida and the wider western Uttar Pradesh region.
Its location in Jewar places it within a broader growth corridor linked to the region’s urban expansion, commercial activity and infrastructure development. The airport’s longer-term role will depend on the growth of flight services, passenger demand and connections with surrounding business and tourism centres.
Airport Begins Commercial Operations
The airport was inaugurated in March 2026 and began commercial operations in June, according to published reports. As operations develop, the expansion of airline services and passenger traffic will be important factors in determining its contribution to regional aviation.
The proposed renaming comes as the airport establishes its operational role in the NCR’s aviation network. Its impact will depend on both the implementation of the formal name-change process and the continued development of airport services and regional connectivity.
Formal Renaming Process Remains Pending
Although the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the proposal, the airport’s renaming is not yet complete. The formal process remains subject to the applicable central-government procedure.
The proposal therefore represents an approved state-level recommendation rather than confirmation that the new name has already taken effect.
