Conservation-led luxury hospitality company expands into Africa with two Lower Zambezi properties, marking its first significant international expansion beyond India
SUJÁN has acquired Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro from Chiawa Safaris, expanding its conservation-led luxury hospitality portfolio into Africa. The acquisition marks SUJÁN’s first significant international expansion beyond India and establishes the company’s presence in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park.
The move adds two established wilderness properties to SUJÁN’s portfolio and forms part of its longer-term plans to expand selectively while maintaining its focus on conservation, responsible stewardship and destination-led hospitality. Over the next four years, the company aims to more than double its portfolio through additions aligned with these principles.
SUJÁN Enters Zambia’s Lower Zambezi
Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro are located along the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park, an area known for its biodiversity and wilderness environment. The properties have developed a reputation for wildlife experiences and intimate hospitality, supported by a focus on the conservation of the surrounding ecosystem.
Chiawa Safaris has operated in the region for more than three decades, establishing a hospitality and conservation approach that SUJÁN says closely reflects its own philosophy. The acquisition therefore extends the company’s operating footprint into a new geography while bringing two established safari properties into its portfolio.

Expansion Built Around Conservation
SUJÁN has spent more than 25 years developing wilderness hospitality experiences in India, with conservation and responsible stewardship forming part of its operating model. Its camps have supported the protection and restoration of natural habitats while creating opportunities for neighbouring communities.
The acquisition of Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro follows the same broader approach. SUJÁN’s expansion strategy is being positioned around selective additions where conservation integrity, hospitality and long-term custodianship are aligned.
The company aims to more than double its portfolio over the next four years, while maintaining its focus on wilderness experiences rather than pursuing expansion solely for scale.
Jaisal Singh Highlights Africa’s Conservation Role
Jaisal Singh, Founder and Chairman of SUJÁN, said,
“Africa has always been a special place for me- not only for its extraordinary wildlife and landscapes, but for the role it has played in demonstrating how thoughtful, and responsible tourism can be a partner in the conservation process. This is far more than a geographic expansion for SUJÁN. It is a natural extension of what we have believed and practised for more than 25 years: that exceptional hospitality must have a greater purpose, protecting the natural world, strengthening local communities and ensuring that wild places remain wild for generations to come.”
The acquisition reflects SUJÁN’s intention to carry its conservation-led hospitality approach into a market where wilderness tourism and ecosystem protection are closely connected.
Two Family-Founded Organisations Come Together
Anjali Singh, Co-Founder of SUJÁN and Executive Chairperson of ANAND Group, said,
“Since its inception, SUJÁN has been guided by the belief that meaningful hospitality can foster a deeper connection with the natural world. As we expand beyond India, we remain firmly anchored in the principles of authenticity, stewardship and conservation that have shaped our journey from the beginning.
“Welcoming Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro into the SUJÁN family is an important milestone, bringing together two family-founded organisations united by a common purpose. We look forward to building upon Chiawa’s remarkable legacy and demonstrating how thoughtful hospitality can make an enduring contribution to the protection of ecosystems, the empowerment of local communities and the preservation of wilderness.”
The transaction brings together two family-founded organisations with a shared emphasis on conservation and wilderness hospitality. For SUJÁN, the acquisition also creates a platform for further international expansion while retaining the principles that have shaped its Indian portfolio.
SUJÁN Builds a Wider Wilderness Portfolio
Following the acquisition, SUJÁN’s portfolio will span wilderness regions across Asia and Africa. The expansion strengthens the company’s positioning around conservation-led camps and lodges and broadens its presence beyond the Indian subcontinent.
The addition of Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro also gives SUJÁN an established base in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi, providing a new setting in which to develop its approach to hospitality, conservation and community engagement.
The acquisition marks a significant step in SUJÁN’s international growth strategy, with future expansion expected to remain selective and aligned with its conservation and hospitality val
