Novotel hotels across India marked World Ocean Day with a nationwide series of sustainability initiatives focused on ocean conservation, community engagement, and environmental awareness, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to protecting natural ecosystems.
The campaign brought together Heartists, guests, local communities, and partner organisations through beach clean-ups, river conservation drives, educational programmes, and sustainable dining initiatives across multiple cities.
Nationwide Conservation Efforts
Hotels across India’s coastal regions organised clean-up drives to help reduce marine pollution and promote cleaner shorelines.
Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach conducted a coastline clean-up with local community members, while Novotel Goa Panjim organised a beach clean-up at Miramar Beach. In Chennai, Novotel Chennai Chamiers Road, Novotel & ibis Chennai OMR, and Novotel Chennai SIPCOT, together with other Accor hotels, carried out a large-scale clean-up at Akkarai Beach.
Further conservation activities were led by teams at Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach, The Bheemili Resort Managed by Accor, and Novotel Kochi Infopark, reinforcing the group’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Community Engagement Beyond the Coast
Several properties extended the campaign to inland ecosystems.
Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC organised a lake clean-up near the property, while Novotel Lucknow Gomti Nagar led a clean-up drive at Kudiya Ghat along the Gomti River.
In Northeast India, Novotel Guwahati combined a cleanliness campaign at the Brahmaputra River with a community seed-sowing initiative to promote biodiversity and environmental awareness.
Raising Awareness Through Education
Education formed a key pillar of the campaign, with hotels conducting sustainability workshops, ocean awareness sessions, quizzes, and poster-making competitions.
Novotel Guwahati hosted a “Best Out of Waste” activity for Heartists, while Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre organised a comprehensive sustainability programme featuring tree plantation drives, bicycle day celebrations, quizzes, poster competitions, and a sustainability pledge campaign.
Families and young guests also participated in interactive activities inspired by Novotel’s global partnership with WWF France. Hotels including Novotel Kolkata Hotel & Residences, Novotel Hyderabad Airport, Novotel Mumbai International Airport, Novotel Pune Nagar Road, and Pullman & Novotel New Delhi Aerocity featured educational games, turtle conservation activities, ocean-themed quizzes, and sustainability films to encourage greater awareness of marine biodiversity.
Promoting Sustainable Dining
The campaign also highlighted responsible food practices through chef-led experiences and sustainable culinary initiatives.
Novotel Vijayawada Varun showcased sustainable seafood preparation using zero-waste cooking principles, while Pullman and Novotel New Delhi Aerocity hosted chef-led sessions on ethical sourcing and sustainable recipes. Several hotels complemented the campaign with ocean-themed brunches and sustainability-focused dining experiences.
Leadership Perspective
Commenting on the initiative, Vineet Mishra, Vice President – Operations, Accor South Asia, said:
“At Accor, sustainability is an integral part of how we operate and engage with our communities. Through Novotel’s ongoing global partnership with WWF France, our hotels across India have come together to drive meaningful local action, from conservation initiatives and awareness programmes to community-led environmental efforts. It is inspiring to see our teams and local communities unite around a shared purpose of protecting our oceans and natural ecosystems. Every small action contributes to creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
The World Ocean Day campaign forms part of Novotel’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes expanding plant-forward dining options, reducing single-use plastics, promoting responsible seafood sourcing, and delivering educational initiatives that support long-term ocean conservation.
