Nirma Group is planning to enter the hospitality sector as part of a broader diversification strategy, with a proposed five-star luxury hotel in Ahmedabad. The move would mark the group’s first major investment in hospitality, according to people familiar with the development.

A large-format luxury project on Ahmedabad’s growth corridor

The proposed project involves the development of a 555-room luxury hotel along the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar (SG) Highway, one of Ahmedabad’s fastest-growing commercial and institutional corridors. The location has emerged as a preferred zone for corporate offices, business districts, and large-scale developments, making it well suited to support a premium hospitality asset.

The hotel is expected to cater to upper-upscale demand, with a focus on corporate travellers, MICE business, and high-end leisure guests.

    Operator discussions underway

People aware of the discussions said Nirma Group has initiated conversations with several leading hotel operators, both international and domestic. These include Indian Hotels Company Limited, Hyatt Hotels, and Marriott International.

At this stage, no operator has been finalised. The group has applied for environmental clearance for the project, a key step before development timelines and partnerships are confirmed. Queries sent to Nirma Group did not receive a response at the time of publication.

Timed to capture long-term demand growth

If approved and executed as planned, the hotel is expected to become operational ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Industry observers note that such a timeline would allow the project to capitalise on expected growth in global events, institutional activity, and business travel linked to the city’s expanding economic footprint.

    Ahmedabad’s hospitality market gains momentum

Industry executives point out that Nirma’s proposed entry comes at a time when Ahmedabad’s hospitality market is undergoing a structural shift. Over the past 18 to 24 months, the city has seen heightened investment activity, driven by industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and rising corporate demand.

“The depth and quality of demand in Ahmedabad today is significantly stronger than it was even a few years ago,”

said Nandivardhan Jain, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of hotel investment and branded residences advisory firm NOESIS.

A new chapter for a diversified conglomerate

Nirma Group reported consolidated revenues of INR 12,207 crore and has a diversified business portfolio spanning detergents, soaps, soda ash, caustic soda, cement, and healthcare. A move into hospitality would represent a strategic expansion into a consumer-facing, asset-heavy sector aligned with long-term urban and economic growth trends.

If the project moves forward, it would place Nirma among a growing group of Indian conglomerates backing large-format luxury hotels in key commercial cities, reflecting renewed confidence in India’s premium hospitality outlook.
