Munich, Germany: Lufthansa is preparing to introduce its first Airbus A350-1000 into commercial service, with the aircraft scheduled to arrive in Munich from Airbus facilities in Toulouse in mid-November 2026. Following final preparations, the aircraft will operate its first passenger flight from Munich to Tokyo Haneda on 3 December 2026. Shanghai and Singapore will be added to the aircraft’s destination network in the following weeks.
The new long-haul aircraft will feature Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin, with services operated by the A350-1000 and A350-900 alternately across the announced routes.
Lufthansa Strengthens Its Premium Hub in Munich
Heiko Reitz, member of the Lufthansa Airlines Board and Hub Manager Munich, said, “We are proud that the Airbus A350-1000, Airbus’s most modern long-haul aircraft, is coming to Munich. The introduction of the new A350-1000 is part of the largest fleet modernization in the history of the Lufthansa Group and a key driver on the path to more sustainability. Our new flagship features 40 percent more Business and Premium Economy seats. To put it simply: The A350-1000 strengthens our premium hub in Munich.”
The aircraft’s introduction is expected to strengthen Lufthansa’s premium offering from Munich, with increased capacity in Business and Premium Economy Class and the airline’s latest cabin products.
First A350-1000 Marks Multiple Milestones
The aircraft, named “Deutschland” and registered as D-AIFA, is scheduled for delivery in mid-November. Its arrival marks several milestones for Lufthansa Group: it will be the 700th aircraft delivered by Airbus to the group and the seventh aircraft in Lufthansa’s anniversary fleet, which features special liveries commemorating the company’s 100th anniversary.
Lufthansa Group has ordered 15 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled through 2030. The first ten aircraft will operate for Lufthansa and be based at its Munich hub.
Four-Class Allegris Cabin Configuration
Measuring 73.80 metres in length, the Airbus A350-1000 is approximately seven metres longer than the A350-900. Lufthansa’s configuration accommodates 300 passengers across four travel classes.
First Class features three seating positions, including two individual suites and one Suite Plus. Business Class offers 49 seats, including eight seats in suites, while Premium Economy has 35 seats. Economy Class accounts for the remaining 212 seats.
The configuration is designed to increase premium seating capacity while retaining a substantial Economy Class cabin for long-haul travel.
Fuel Efficiency and Lower Emissions
The Airbus A350-1000 combines advanced aerodynamics with two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines and lightweight construction materials. More than 50% of the aircraft’s structure comprises advanced materials, including composites, titanium and modern aluminium alloys.
According to the aircraft’s specifications, these technologies contribute to a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft. The A350-1000 also meets stringent aircraft noise requirements and is certified below the latest International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Chapter 14 noise standards.
The aircraft’s introduction forms part of Lufthansa Group’s broader fleet renewal strategy, combining improved fuel efficiency with an expanded premium cabin offering on long-haul routes.
