A bootstrapped startup from Ahmedabad is quietly rewriting the way India’s hotels welcome their guests — one QR scan at a time.
When most startups launch, they rent a fancy office, raise a funding round, and run paid ad campaigns. TravDigi did none of that.
Instead, on June 5, 2026 — World Environment Day — founder Bharath Keshava and his team loaded their gear into a 15-year-old Mitsubishi and drove out of Ahmedabad onto India’s coastal highways. Their mission: replace the paper hotel register — a process unchanged for over 100 years — with something faster, smarter, and completely paperless.
Eight days later, they had onboarded 55 hotels. No paid acquisition. No shortcuts. Just a team on the ground, hotel by hotel, city by city, coast by coast.
The Problem Hiding in Plain Sight
Every hotel check-in in India tells the same story. Guests fill out the same forms they’ve filled a hundred times before. Staff manually copy passport and ID details. Paper registers pile up in storage rooms. Compliance reports take hours to prepare when authorities ask.
Bharath Keshava, Founder and CEO of TravDigi, said,
“Hotel check-in hasn’t changed in over 100 years, Travelers repeat the same information at every hotel, and staff lose hours on paperwork that should take seconds. We knew there had to be a better way.”
That better way became TravDigi.
How TravDigi Works
The concept is elegantly simple.
A traveler verifies their identity just once on the free TravDigi app. They upload a government-issued ID and record a short verification video, which is reviewed by TravDigi’s human verification team. Once approved, the traveler receives a dynamic QR code.
At any TravDigi-enabled hotel, the traveler simply shows their QR code. The hotel scans it. Check-in is complete in under 20 seconds. No forms. No photocopying. No queues.
For hotels, the benefits run deeper than speed:
- A fully digital guest register that replaces paper permanently
- Walk-in guest registration for guests without the app
- Watermarked, timestamped compliance reports generated on demand — ready for any authority
- Role-based staff access that protects guest privacy
- Support for all property types and all nationalities across 196 countries
Importantly, TravDigi works alongside a hotel’s existing PMS and software — it doesn’t replace anything. It simply adds a verified digital check-in layer on top.
The Expedition Model
What makes TravDigi’s story different isn’t just the technology — it’s how they’re growing.
Rather than waiting for hotels to discover them online, TravDigi’s expedition team travels India’s coastline in person, demonstrating the product to hotel owners face to face. The 15-year-old Mitsubishi has become an unlikely symbol of the company’s grounded, no-shortcuts philosophy.
“Old car. New technology. One mission,” Bharath says with a smile. “We believe in showing up, not just sending emails.”
The approach is working. While established competitors with significant funding have struggled to gain traction, TravDigi’s hands-on model delivered 55 hotels in its first eight days.
Built in India, Designed for the World
Though it’s starting on India’s coast, TravDigi’s ambitions are global. The platform is built on a regional data architecture spanning seven AWS server regions, ensuring traveler identity data is stored according to each traveler’s citizenship and local data protection laws — from India’s DPDP Act to GDPR and beyond.
The company is already in partnership conversations across the Maldives, the Pacific Islands, Greece, and the UAE — and is a DPIIT-recognized startup under the Government of India’s Startup India initiative.
A lightweight property management system, TravDigi PMS Lite, is currently in testing — signaling the company’s intent to evolve from a check-in solution into a complete hospitality platform for small and independent hotels.
What’s Next
For Bharath and the TravDigi team, 55 hotels is not a finish line — it’s a starting point.
He further added,
“Customers are genuinely happy. They tell us it just works — easy and fast, Funding would help us scale faster and reach more businesses, but our vision doesn’t depend on it. We’re committed to building for the long term. The paper register has been around for more than 100 years, so change won’t happen overnight. But we’ve started that journey, and we’re not stopping.”
As the Mitsubishi rolls on toward the next coastal town, India’s hospitality industry may be witnessing the quiet beginning of a long-overdue transformation.
TravDigi is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Travelers use it free, forever. Hotels get their first three months free, with no credit card required.
