Saffron Indian Cuisine in Cary, North Carolina, has appointed Chef Lekhpal Singh Rawat as Executive Chef, bringing extensive culinary experience across Indian and international hospitality markets to the restaurant’s kitchen leadership.
In his new role, Chef Lekhpal will oversee culinary operations, menu development and the kitchen team. His responsibilities will include daily kitchen operations, menu planning, food and labour cost management, inventory, food safety and hygiene, as well as recruitment and training.
This leadership change supports ITC’s growth trajectory, contributing to hotel appointments.
Culinary Leadership at Saffron Indian Cuisine
At Saffron Indian Cuisine, Chef Lekhpal will lead the restaurant’s day-to-day food production and culinary operations. His remit will cover menu development, food quality, kitchen procedures and cost management while maintaining consistency in preparation and presentation.
He will also oversee the recruitment and development of the culinary team, with training forming part of his responsibilities as he establishes kitchen processes and supports operational requirements.
Experience Across Indian and International Cuisines
Chef Lekhpal’s culinary background spans North and South Indian cuisine, tandoor cooking, sauté techniques, wellness cuisine and gastronomic fusion. His experience also includes Sri Lankan and Mediterranean cuisines.
His career has taken him across India, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Dubai and Sri Lanka, providing exposure to different restaurant formats, culinary operations and guest profiles.
Before joining Saffron Indian Cuisine, he worked with Costa del Sol Hotel in Kuwait, Comfort Hotel Dewa Retreat in Uttarakhand, Indian Tast Bites Restaurant in Amsterdam and Rixos Premium Hotel in Dubai.
Career Across Taj and Other Hospitality Properties
Chef Lekhpal has also held culinary positions with Taj Hotel in Bangalore and Taj Samudra in Colombo. His professional journey includes The Lalit Ashok in Bangalore, Hotel Hill View in Faridabad and Best Western The Emerald.
Across these properties, his responsibilities have included kitchen operations, banquet and formal dining, menu development, food festivals and theme events. He has also worked on guest relations and culinary team training.
His experience includes menu engineering, food-cost management and the development and implementation of kitchen procedures covering food production, quality and hygiene.
Experience in Banquets and Culinary Events
Chef Lekhpal’s career has included participation in culinary competitions and industry events. He participated in the Grand Culinary Contest in 2006 and conducted a cookery demonstration at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Indian Culture Centre in 2009.
He was also associated with the Hospitality Excellence Award received by Navratna in 2014 and received a Long Service Award in the same year.
His culinary assignments have included preparing banquets for former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as events involving personalities from the entertainment and sports sectors.
Head Chef During the 2011 Cricket World Cup
During the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Chef Lekhpal worked with the culinary team at Taj Samudra in Colombo, where he served as Head Chef of the Navratna restaurant.
The assignment added experience in managing culinary operations within a high-profile international sporting event environment, alongside his wider background in Indian cuisine and formal dining.
