OPO Hotels & Resorts is entering West Bengal with its first hotel in the state, located in New Town, Kolkata. The management agreement for the property was finalised on August 31, 2026, with operations scheduled to begin in mid-October, ahead of the Durga Puja period.
Located opposite Axis Mall in New Town, the hotel will feature 24 rooms, a 40-cover all-day dining restaurant, two banquet spaces and a rooftop bar-cum-lounge with panoramic views. The combination of accommodation, dining and event facilities is designed to serve corporate travellers, leisure guests and the local market.
This deal reflects Opo’s growing footprint, reinforcing momentum in latest hotel signings.OPO enters West Bengal
The New Town property marks OPO Hotels & Resorts’ entry into West Bengal and forms part of the company’s wider expansion across Eastern and North-Eastern India. Upcoming hotels in Guwahati and Itanagar are also planned as the company builds its presence across the region.
The expansion is being driven through management partnerships, allowing OPO to work with property owners while bringing its hotel management capabilities to markets with business, leisure and tourism demand.
New Town property targets multiple segments
The hotel’s location opposite Axis Mall places it within New Town-Rajarhat, an established business and lifestyle district of Kolkata. The area has developed a mix of corporate offices, retail, entertainment and hospitality offerings.
The property’s two banquet spaces and all-day dining restaurant will cater to meetings, celebrations and social events. The rooftop bar-cum-lounge is intended to serve hotel guests as well as customers from the surrounding market.
With accommodation, food and beverage and events contributing to the property’s offering, the hotel has been designed around multiple sources of business.
24 rooms and rooftop dining
The 24-room hotel will combine accommodation with food and beverage and event facilities. Its 40-cover all-day dining restaurant will provide an in-house dining option, while the rooftop bar-cum-lounge will offer panoramic views of the surrounding area.
The two banquet spaces will provide venues for corporate meetings, celebrations and social gatherings, extending the property’s potential beyond room-based demand.
OPO focuses on asset-light expansion
The Kolkata project forms part of OPO’s asset-light growth model, under which the company partners with property owners and manages hotels using its operational and commercial expertise.
The model brings together OPO’s capabilities in hotel operations, sales, revenue management and guest experience, while allowing the company to expand into new markets through management agreements.
Sandeep Basu, CEO, OPO Hotels & Resorts, said:
“For OPO Hotels & Resorts, expansion is not about simply adding keys to our portfolio. It is about identifying the right markets, partnering with the right owners and creating properties with a clear commercial and experiential proposition. New Town gives us exactly that opportunity. With its strategic location, strong surrounding hospitality ecosystem and multiple revenue streams, this property is an important milestone in our journey towards building OPO as a strong pan-India hospitality management company.”
Expansion across Eastern and North-Eastern India
The New Town hotel is the first step in OPO’s planned expansion across Eastern and North-Eastern India. The company is also developing upcoming properties in Guwahati and Itanagar, broadening its geographic footprint through management partnerships.
The Kolkata property is scheduled to commence operations in mid-October 2026, placing its opening ahead of the Durga Puja period. Its combination of rooms, dining and event facilities will allow OPO to participate across corporate, leisure and local demand segments in New Town.
