He previously spent more than a decade leading companies within Blackstone’s portfolio, most recently as CEO of LivCor. In his new role, he will oversee Alterra’s mountain resort operations and broader business activities and will be based in Denver, Colorado, where he will relocate with his family.
The appointment strengthens the hospitality sector’s leadership framework, contributing to hotel appointments. To Lead Mountain Resort Operations
As Chief Executive Officer, Vohs will lead Alterra Mountain Company’s resort operations and wider business activities, working with teams across its mountain destinations and corporate functions. His responsibilities will span operational performance, employee leadership and the delivery of guest experiences across the company’s portfolio.
His experience managing businesses with large workforces and complex operating environments brings a combination of hospitality operations and corporate leadership to the position. His background in frontline businesses also informs his approach to supporting the employees responsible for delivering guest experiences.
Brings Experience Across Hospitality and Technology
Before his appointment at Alterra, Vohs served as CEO of SafetyCulture, a global platform focused on frontline operations. The position added technology-sector leadership to a career built around businesses where operational execution and customer experience are central.
Prior to SafetyCulture, Vohs spent more than a decade leading companies within Blackstone’s portfolio. His most recent role during that period was CEO of LivCor, extending his experience in real estate and business management.
Earlier, he led operations at BR Guest Hospitality, a New York-based restaurant group with more than 20 restaurants. This role gave him experience managing food and beverage operations across a multi-outlet business, with responsibilities spanning service delivery, teams and operational performance.
Career Across Leading Hotel Properties
Vohs’ hotel leadership experience includes serving as General Manager of The Boca Raton Resort & Club and Waldorf Astoria Chicago. He also served as the opening General Manager of Conrad Chicago, gaining experience in establishing hotel operations and leading teams through a property launch.
His experience across these properties provided exposure to luxury hospitality, hotel operations and guest service. Combined with his restaurant leadership background, it established a foundation in hospitality businesses that rely on coordination across multiple departments and consistent service delivery.
His subsequent work across real estate and technology expanded his experience beyond traditional hospitality operations, adding broader business leadership responsibilities to his career.
Leadership Rooted in Service
Before entering the corporate and hospitality sectors, Vohs served for eight years with the U.S. Army’s 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. During his military service, he completed four combat deployments.
His experience across military service, hospitality and corporate leadership brings together team management, operational discipline and responsibility for complex organisations.
Commenting on the appointment, Eric Resnick, Chairman of the Board of Alterra Mountain Company, said,
“Alterra Mountain Company’s mission is to bring the joy of the mountains to all, and in Kelly we found a leader who has lived that joy and knows what it takes to deliver it,” said Eric Resnick, Chairman of the Board of Alterra. “Kelly has spent his career running businesses where thousands of employees show up every day to take care of people, from iconic resorts to communities that tens of thousands of families call home. With snow beginning to fall, our teams preparing the mountains and guests planning their winters, Kelly will take the helm at exactly the right moment. The Board and I could not be more excited to welcome him to Alterra.”
Focus on Teams and Guest Experiences
Vohs said his personal connection to mountain destinations was among the reasons he was looking forward to joining the company.
“Some of the best days I’ve ever had have been on a mountain. I’m excited to come back to Colorado and help the Alterra Mountain Company team create those days for millions of guests. It takes a lot of people to make that happen – lift operators, instructors, groomers, chefs, housekeepers, and the people behind the scenes guests never see,”
said Kelly Vohs, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Alterra Mountain Company.
“My first job was in a restaurant kitchen, so I know this is a team sport. A great day on the mountain is won or lost by those teams. My job is to back them up so they can do their best work and love doing it. And my family and I are glad to be making Denver our home.”
His comments highlight the role of frontline employees in delivering the mountain experience, from lift operations and instruction to food and beverage, housekeeping and support functions.
Supporting Alterra’s Next Phase
Vohs’ appointment brings together experience across resort management, restaurant operations, real estate and technology. His background in hospitality, including leadership at established luxury hotels and an opening General Manager assignment, provides direct experience relevant to Alterra’s mountain resort business.
Based in Denver, Vohs will lead the company’s operations and broader business activities, with a focus on supporting employees and delivering experiences for guests across its mountain destinations.
